Before work on the Peters house began in April 2007, the crew of the Art of Restoration met with SCAD's preservation specialist Bob Dickensheets to take a pre-reconstruction tour of the mansion.

It’s a fascinating walk through the history of the house, and Dickensheets helps to turn back time and reintroduce its original design, owners and name.

Exterior

The Peters Family
Prior to the demolition of the Mansion restaurant addition, Dickensheets reviews the elements that make the exterior of the Peters House so unique and discusses the Peters family and their impact on the formation and building of Atlanta.

Upstairs

Sleeping Porch
At the time the Peters House was built,  there was only one way in the summertime to get cool at night.

Master Bedroom
Dickensheets introduces some of the design elements that went into the Peters House as well as some ideas on early cooling technology in the South.

Upstairs Hallway
Some of the walls in this area were moved to accommodate the restaurant but will be restored during the restoration process.

Bedroom
Restoration of the Peters House will involve the careful work of recreating or rebuilding the unique fireplaces.

Downstairs

Grand Staircase
The staircase in the Peters House is one of the most embellished, ornate structures within the home and includes themes and elements repeated throughout the house.

Library
There are components to the library that link this home back to the Peters family's ancestral residence in Pennsylvania.

Living Room
Each of the living areas in the Peters House was built with different materials and wood.

Dining Room
The centrally located dining room was a gathering point for the family in the early days and in many ways represents the essence of the Early American lifestyle.
