Wallace announced the college had signed an agreement to receive the donation of the Edward C. Peters House, formerly known as The Mansion restaurant, located in midtown Atlanta at 179 Ponce de Leon Ave., N.E., from S.D.H. Investment Corp. Inc. In March 2007, S.D.H. Investment Corp. Inc., SCAD and Jolly Development announced that ownership of the historic Peters House has officially transferred to the college. SCAD, with its rich legacy of historic preservation in Savannah and France, plans to rehabilitate the Peters House, one of the first homes in Georgia thought to fully embody the Victorian Queen Anne architectural style, as well as its surrounding acreage for use as a cultural arts center. The Peters House, called Ivy Hall by the Peters family, was designed by noted architect Gottfrid L. Norrman in 1883 and has been called Atlanta’s oldest, most complete and single most important representation of the city’s “New South,” post-Civil War period. The Art of Restoration Web site is for anyone interested in following along as SCAD’s historic preservation crew tackles one of the most complex restorations ever undertaken in the City of Atlanta. The information and resources on this site can help anyone who is either interested in the fascinating stories and history associated with our built environment or active in restoring and repairing historic structures. |
